As Shakespeare once wrote, “A rose by any other name would smell as sweet.”
While this is true, there is a lot of importance placed up the name of G*D in scripture. In the first sentence of the bible, Genesis 1:1, it literally says, “In the beginning Elohim,” the name of G*D. The devout ones of the Old Testament would not even say His name out loud and abbreviated it to 4 letters, YHWH, when it was written down. Clearly, we are meant to have great reverence for proper names.
You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain, for the Lord will not hold him guiltless who takes his name in vain.
Exodus 20:7
—-
You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain, for the Lord will not hold him guiltless who takes his name in vain.
Deuteronomy 5:11
The name of the Lord is a strong tower; the righteous man runs into it and is safe.
Proverbs 18:10
Pray then like this: “Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name.
Matthew 6:9
God said to Moses, “I am who I am.” And he said, “Say this to the people of Israel, ‘I am has sent me to you.’”
Exodus 3:14

And yet in Modern times, we throw around this name, “Jesus,” willy nilly. Where did this name come from?
And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bear a son, and you shall name Him Ἰησοῦν.
Luke 1:31 NASB
And when eight days were completed so that it was time for His circumcision, He was also named Ἰησοῦν, the name given by the angel before He was conceived in the womb.
Luke 2:21 NASB
And yet… that is NOT the name that was given by the angel was it? So whom do you trust? Luke or Isaiah and Matthew or the Greek translators who conveniently gave Our Lord this newfangled name.?
Therefore the Lord Himself will give you a sign: Behold, the virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and she will name Him Immanuel.
Isaiah 7:14 NASB
“Behold, the virgin will conceive and give birth to a Son, and they shall name Him Immanuel,” which translated means, “God with us.”
Matthew 1:23 NASB
Now all this took place so that what was spoken by the Lord through the prophet would be fulfilled: “BEHOLD, THE VIRGIN WILL CONCEIVE AND GIVE BIRTH TO A SON, AND THEY SHALL NAME HIM IMMANUEL,” which translated means, “GOD WITH US.” And Joseph awoke from his sleep and did as the angel of the Lord commanded him, and took Mary as his wife, but kept her a virgin until she gave birth to a Son; and he named Him Jesus.
Matthew 1:22-25
Think of Jesus only as an adopted nickname. If you are interested in getting His real attention, just like your mother may have done with you at pivotal times, use his PROPER NAME: Immanuel, Yeshu, Yeshua, Yehoshua or Yashua. Because, there IS a radical difference between the English and the Hebrew forms of His name.
Yashua
Christ
Lord
Immanuel
—————-
Then it will sweep on into Judah, it will overflow and pass through, It will reach as far as the neck; And the spread of its wings will fill the expanse of your land, Immanuel.
Isaiah 8:8 NASB
Devise a plan, but it will fail; State a proposal, but it will not stand, For God is with us.
Isaiah 8:10
